    WAZALENDO SACCO DONATES TO UPDF CIVIL MILITARY COOPERATION ACTIVITIES IN ELGON SUBREGION

    Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) has today made a contribution of one hundred (100) hospital mattresses and five (05) crest water tanks with a capacity of 5000 litres each in support of the ongoing UPDF civil military cooperation activities to commemorate the launch of NRA/UPDF liberation struggle.

    The donation is in support of the ongoing activities in the subregion that include among others; Engineering works, medical camps and general public health campaigns that are being undertaken by the UPDF during the army week and prior to the 41st Tarehe Sita Anniversary celebrations on Sunday 6th February 2022 at Maluku grounds.

    Wazalendo SACCO shall also offer training to other SACCOs in the Elgon subregion in fullfilment of principle No 7 of cooperatives – cooperation among cooperators but also as a way of giving back to the community .

    The Chief Executive Officer of WSACCO Col Joseph Freddy Onata who presented the donated items on behalf of WSACCO’S Board of Directors and management noted that WSACCO identifies with the population which are the source of recruitment for UPDF that constitutes the bulk of WSACCO’s membership.

    “We are here to give back to the population in recognition and appreciation of their unwavering support during the struggle for freedom and democracy” he said.

    Col Onata added that the mattresses will be distributed to ten (10) selected hospitals while the five (05) water tanks will be distributed to five selected schools.
    He stressed that the donation of the water harvesting tanks will go a long way to help the schools to effectively implement COVID-19 pandemic containment SOPs especially hand washing.

    The Deputy Chief of Civil Military Cooperation Col Sam Ntambirwe thanked WSACCO for the generous contribution towards effecting Quick Impact Projects in the Elgon Region in honor of the galant Men and Women who sacrificed their lives during the liberation struggle to achieve peace and security.

    He said that the contribution will strengthen UPDF’s efforts in building a strong civil military relationship with the people.

    “As we give back to community, I appreciate WSACCO for fulfilling its Cooperate Social Responsibility role,” Col Ntambirwe emphasized.

    He added that it’s now time for UPDF to give back to the people in Bugisu and Sebei Regions for their positive contribution to the struggle.

    Col Ntambirwe called for continuous support from other stakeholders for UPDF to cement it’s strategic relationship with the people.

    Stanbic Bank, Million Trees International Organisation, Makere University Global paints,Uzima water, Picfare, Ministry of Health among others have also contributed to the success of Tarehesita and Defence Forces week under their theme ” Retracing the People’s Struggle for Peace and Security for a Modern Uganda.

    The handover was witnessed by representatives from the office of the UPDF Chief Political Commissar, Chieftaincy of Medical Services and the Defence Spokesperson.
